Fun With Tournements

Yes, still here... And I am still a sucker for the tournement action on Party.

I have recently discovered the Step Tournements on Party. On the surface, they look like a pretty decent deal, but they're a bitch, don't you doubt. I've probably played 30 tournys and I've gotten to the money round once... and lost. Dammit.

I've been screwing around with their mini-step tournements. At first I figured I'd buy in on the 1st level. The prize pool is 6th place pays $4 for your $6 investment, and the 5th through 2nd spots pay you a freeroll to try level 1 again. Top spot sends you to level 2. Sounds equitable enough.. Even rather sloppy tournement play will more then likely get you at least a free roll to try it again, but I find I'm stuck there. I got sick of screwing around at level 1, so I took the rest of what was left in my account and bought into the second round ($20+$2). This is really where you need to be buying in, IMHO. 9th through 6th and you get punted down to the 1st step. 5th through 3rd and you free roll your 2nd level, and 2nd and 1st pay you up. Short a complete brain lock and a 10th place loss, you're going to be doing SOMETHING with your buyin.

I managed to make it to the money round, and not surprisingly found a table full of fold-mongers... Once you make it to the money round in the mini-steps, the last 5 places pay.. Yes, half the table walks away with a check...

And I couldn't pull it off. (><)

Really, I knew I was screwed when the first 25 hands went by without us seeing a showdown. I still have a hard time shifting into aggressive mode in the face of this table... Something I'm getting better at, but after all the work to get there, I pussed out. I'm a wimp.

Anyway, I don't completely suck.. Went to Stars and did this:

PokerStars Tournament #16657275,
No Limit Hold'em Buy-In: $10.00/$1.00
27 players
Total Prize Pool: $270.00 Tournament started - 2005/12/17 - 19:49:10 (ET)
Dear The_ICP,
You finished the tournament in 1st place. A $100.00 award has been credited to your Real Money account. Congratulations! Thank you for participating.

So I don't completely suck.

Anyway, I've still got a freeroll sitting around on party... and a $1.75. So maybe I'll turn that freeroll into something, or I'll just head over to the no-limit table and turn that $1.75 into another buyin...

Level 5 will be mine.... Oh yes. It will be mine.
